For example

Information came from sql error log.

Hi,
Can someone explain the following info came from sql server error log? This
is the two node (active/passive) cluster SQL Server 2005 (with SP1) and OS is
Windows 2003 (64 bit, attached to SAN) named instance database server.
11/28/2006 12:10:21 PM [298] SQL Server Error: 10004, Communication link
failure [SQLSTATE 08S01]
11/28/2006 12:10:21 PM [298] SQL Server Error: 64, Communication link
failure [SQLSTATE 08S01]
11/28/2006 12:10:21 PM [298] SQL Server Error: 64, TCP Provider: The
specified network name is no longer available. [SQLSTATE 08S01]
Is above error means the net work not available for database instance while
application batch job running from other server connect to database server?
11/29/2006 2:05:06 AM SQL Server has encountered 4677 occurrence(s) of I/O
requests taking longer than 15 seconds to complete on file
[M:\bsi\data\bsi_Data.MDF] in database [bsi](5). The OS file handle is
0x00000000000009F4. The offset of the latest long I/O is: 0x000000badbc000
11/29/2006 2:47:39 AM SQL Server has encountered 993 occurrence(s) of I/O
requests taking longer than 15 seconds to complete on file
[M:\market_place\data\mp_orders_dat.ndf] in database [market_place](13). The
OS file handle is 0x0000000000000A9C. The offset of the latest long I/O is:
0x000000307e4c000
Is above info means the SAN drive is very busy and took long time to
complete the database processes such as query, insert, update and delete, etc?
Thanks!

Indicator non aggregate

Hi everybody,

I'm working on SQL Server 2005 & Reporting services to create a Projet model to deploy it on the server.

To explain me, i 'll recreate simply my problem on the the database "AdventureWorksDW".

I woudl like to see information on my product dimension.

In a matrix tab, i put "Product name" in row value and "customer name" on column.

I would naturally know the "Sales Amount" for my product by customers.

But, as i had not create aggregate, i can't put my numerique value on the cells indicators. It just allowed me to put the SUM(SALES_AMOUNT) by exemple, but it's not what i want.

How can i put my numerique value in this case ?

Regards,

Erwan

Toulouse, France

Have a column called count on the fact table.

Have the value 1 in the column

Sum the column

|||

The probleme is that i dont want the sum of my value, in just want the pure value.

It is possible ?

Erwan

The whole point of a matrix is that it aggregates the data.

Otherwise it would be a table.

In analysis services, you can drillthrough to the underlying data in the fact table. You would need to post on that forum to find out how.

it's ok, i had just execute my request to blind total.

Thanks adolf

Indexed Views are they supported?

According the documentation in 2000 and 2005 indexed views are only supporte
d
in the Enterprise edition. So please explain why I can create a unique
clustered index on a view that is schemabound on the standard edition of SQL
Server 2000? Is an index on a view different then and indexed view? If so
please explain. Could it be that creating indexed views is supported in all
versions, but only the using the GUI (EM or Management Studio) to create the
views is not supported in Enterprise and Developer edition? I noticed that
"Manage Indexes...", is grayed out of the "All Tasks" drop down on a view in
EM, and I am running standard edition. You can create the index on any edition, however on the lower editions, it
will not be automatically considered in the query plan unless you use a
specific hint in the query.

I have no idea; I use EM for managing jobs and DTS and that's about it.
Stretching here, because I honestly don't believe EM is this smart, but is
it possible that this indexed view has the only index in the database?

Hi Greg,
I just ran a quick test on my copy of EM (connected to a developer
edition of SQL Server 2000). If I create a view with schemabinding, I
can access the "Manage indexes" option in EM. If I drop the view and
recreate it without schemabinding, then (after refreshing the list of
views) the "Manage indexes" option is greyed out.
Have yoou tried it on a view that was created with schemabinding and
that further also satisfies all requirements for creating an indexed
view?
