I see an this message at the end of the the
ReportServer__mm_dd_yy_hh_mm_ss.log file the second oldest log file.
w3wp!webserver!1!11/28/2007-09:17:57:: i INFO: Reporting Web
Server stopped
Then in the most recent log file I see this at the beginning:
w3wp!webserver!9!11/28/2007-10:37:19:: i INFO: Reporting Web Server
started
I assume this is because I have some how set up reporting to services to
automatically shutdown after a period of non-activity.
It seems that everytime the first person tries reporting services when it is
stopped. It takes a long time to render the report. Then after it is
running it gets rendered much quicker. Once again I'm guessing this happens
be cause reporting services needs to start (slow rendering), or is all ready
running (fast rendering).
Is ther way to always keep the Reporting Web Server running and not having
is shut down periodically Are there drawbacks to doing this?

Go to IIS Manager, under Applocation Pools node, right click
"DefaultAppPool" in which the Reporting Server work process is running,
select properties. On "Performace" tag, you will see, by default, the app
pool will shut down if > being idle for 20 min. You can extend this time to
8x60min 480min, so that the app pool will not shut down for a regular
working day. However, the first report reader of the day, will hit the
delay. You may schedule a dummy report at beginning of a work day for this.

disable the non-activity shutdown all together?

Info about A/A SQL 2000 cluster
Hi i need to configure 2 sql2000 server (S1 e S2) in a/a mode with two
database on the first node and other two database on the second node.
I have 3 Logical Unit SCSI on external diskarray
- q: quorum into "cluser group" with owner S1 Server
- r: dati1 into "Group 0" with owner S1 Server
- s: dati2 into "Group 1" with owner S1 Server
I now should install a SQL Virtual Server with SQL 2000 CD-ROM but how i
install virtual server for a/a mode ?
I read that i install first VS on the S1 Server and second VS on the S2
Server but how i can do it if all resource is locked is locked form S1
Server ?!?!?
How i set a datafile for VS on S1 to save to r: and datafile for VS on S2 to
save to s: if s: is locekd always from S1 server ?!?!?
Thanks in advance.
For every Active SQL you need another instance. In your case two instances
and two installs
Cheers,
Rod

but a last question :
How i do configure the cluster in "shared nothing model" !?!
From Cluster Administration / Cluster administration Wizard or during a SQL

Thanks!

Indexes..
I have a database with 1 table and 4 fields. No relational link with
anything or other databases. I add about 20 records per second and
periodically query for information. My question, should I create an index
for this table? If so why? If so why? I thought a index would make sense if
it was relation one field to another.
Thanks

hi ralph,
indexes are "particularly" useful in SELECT statements.
Some examples where indexes will be useful are:
a)indexes will be useful for a query against a table in which columns
frequently involved in search conditions of a select query using WHERE
clause.
b)select statements that involves joins and grouping are frequently done
against specific columns.
c)select queries that involves, returning of distinct values from the table.
d)select queries involving order by cluases. Creation of indexes on the
columns of table that are part of "order by" clause eliminates the need for
SQL Server to sort the data because the rows are already sorted. This
improves query performance.
As you said the table inserts almost 20 records per second which , shows
high volume of data manipulation operation on the table which may get
affected if you create unncessary index on the table.
So careful while creating index on the table and give consideration to the
queries that are run against the table. Mainly SELECT,UPDATE that involves
where clauses/joins.
